Rain Forest Ecosystem

The Rain Forest Ecosystem is an ecosystem that occurs roughly within the latitudes 28 degrees north or south of the equator. This ecosystem experiences high average temperatures and a significant amount of rainfall. Rainforests can be found in Asia, Austrailia , Africa, South America, Central America, Mexico and on many of the Pacific, Caribbean, and Indian Ocean islands.

Abiotic Factors

  • Bengal Bamboo-common to rain forests, grow between 40 and 80 feetexternal image 5875642451_1a58aae479.jpg
  • Kapok Tree-can grow to 150 feet or even more
  • Durian-fruit found among several trees

Biotic Factors

  • Reptiles-King Cobra, Walger's Pit Viper
  • Mammals-Orangutans, Bengal Tiger, Probiscis Monkey
  • Insects and birds

Threats to the Ecosystem

  • Rising demand is driving owners to clear tropical forest to plant oil palms

  • three year old oil palm
    three year old oil palm
Oil palms are plants that have oil stowed in the pulp of the fruit
  • Fires damaging the forest
  • The loss of land is causing Orangutans to lose their homes

  • Damage to peatland, partly due to palm oil production, is claimed to contribute to environmental degradation, including four percent of
global greenhouse gas emissions and eight percent of all global emissions caused annually by burning fossil fuels, due to the clearing of large areas of rainforest for palm oil plantations.

Importance of Ecosystem

They provide foods, medicines and energy; they regulate nutrient recycling and waste; they lock up carbon; they maintain clean air and water, they supply crop pollination, seed dispersal, pest and disease control; they preserve genetic diversity and provide recreation. If it is destroyed, the orangutans will die because the resources are dead.

Conservation Plan

Try not to buy orangutan products. Such as Tropical Plywood that is part of the orangutans habitat. Also Dowles made from ramin, rayon viscose, exotic hardwoods, teak, ebony, sandalwood or ironwood. Most of all try to avoid Palm Oil products whenever possible. It is one of the best solutions into helping orangutans because palm oil plantations are one of the orangutans resources. Did you know that ownership of non-human primates as pets is illegal and wrong? Most people hunt orangutans because they are slow and large. We should make it illegal to hunt orangutans because there aren't many left to survive. Right now WWF is working on conserving orangutan habitats so that orangutans can live in a secure and well-managed protected areas and

ider forest landscapes connected by corridors. Also they plan on promoting sustainable forestry and agriculture. Last they plan on halting the pet trade. Besides it’s illegal anyways, so why continue? Palm Oil is mostly found in the trees where orangutans live, and they say in the United Nations Environmental Programme that 98% of Orangutans will be gone by 2022 if we continue to collect Palm Oil from the trees that Orangutans need without urgent action. The reason why most people like to adopt orangutans is because they are like the humean in a lot of ways. Like they share 97% of the same DNA as us which makes them known as the “person of the forest.” But this still isn’t right to do when orangutans deserve to live where they were meant to. Not with humans, even if they share the same DNA. So, help save the orangutan population. Don’t buy Palm Oil products so they can still live in their home habitat, and don’t adopt them because it is illegal anywaysAttributions
